Some of the distributors even charge money to do this. Most bands don’t even realise that they can do this all themselves for FREE! Any distributor that charges for a service like this is simply just ripping you off.

Here is a step by step guide on how to get your music chart eligible for the UK.

  1. Ensure your release complies with the ‘Chart Rules’. There are rules that apply to physical formats, and rules for digital formats. If your release does not adhere to the chart rules it will not be eligible for any of the published charts, although OCC will still track sales of the product providing it has been registered correctly.
    Full copies of the chart rules (singles and albums) are available to download from here
  2. Obtain a catalogue number and barcode for each of your physical formats. We can only track sales of those products  with a unique barcode (UPC codes are provided FREE on RouteNote).
  3. Obtain an ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) for each of your individual digital tracks and a digital barcode for each of your digital formats. We can only track sales of those downloads with an ISRC and digital single or album formats with a digital barcode.
  4. Finally you need to head to the PPL Repertoire site: http://www.ppluk.com/repertoire. Once there you need to register and upload your music to the PPL Repertoire database. Contact PPL Repertoire Database via email on chart@ppluk.com or by telephone on 020 7534 1122 if you have any problems.

Thats it!

Make sure that you never pay any money to distributors for this service, because anyone can get access to the PPL Repertoire database for FREE.

Tom Jones has been called a sick joke by his record label in previous week, but now he has had the last laugh! Tom Jones’ new album, Praise and Blame, has managed to outsell Eminem’s monstrously dominant Recovery album in the U.K.

Having just been released yesterday, Praise and Blame has shot to the provisional Number One spot in the U.K. music charts after one day of sales, leading to Jones suggesting that the two chart heavyweights should join forces in the future for continued world dominion:

“I couldn’t be more proud of this album and I’m really blown away by the response from everyone… It’s great to be top of the charts with Eminem, maybe next time we could be top together.”

Pendulum has just grabbed their first UK number 1 with Immersion. The Australian drum & bass/rock outfit took the top spot in from of the Rolling Stones’ “Excile on Main St.”.

Warner Music also claimed the week’s second-bestselling album as Michael Bublé’s “Crazy Love” (Reprise), which received additional promotion around his recent arena dates in Britain, rebounded 19-2. The album, which had already sold close to 1.2 million copies by the turn of the year, is now five times platinum for U.K. shipments of 1.5 million.

Shazam Encore is a premium version of the company’s existing iPhone app.

New features include:

  • Quicker tagging
  • Music recommendations
  • Charts
  • Car mode to automatically tag tracks that are playing on your radio.

The Encore version costs a one-off download fee of £2.99 / $4.99, although Shazam says it will continue to support the free version too – albeit limiting new users of that to five tags a month in an effort to persuade them to upgrade. That free version is one of the most popular music applications in the iTunes store which has 10 million downloads so far.

“We have listened to our iPhone and iPod touch users and have created a new app which answers their requests to take them on an enhanced music journey that will change the way music lovers experience and learn about music,” says CEO Andrew Fisher.
