Spotify have nabbed their new head of artist and label marketing from the label-owned music video site Vevo.

Spotify have hired Tom Connaughton, a former executive at Vevo, to join the music streaming giant. Connaughton will join Spotify as the head of artist and label marketing in their UK division.

Connaughton leaves his spot at the major-label run music video site Vevo after almost ten years. Before leaving he served as Senior Vice President of creative and content programming. Connaughton will relocate from his position in New York to Spotify’s offices in London where he will report to Troy Carter, Spotify’s global head of creative services at Spotify.

Carter said of the new hire: “I am confident that Tom will be a tremendous asset to Spotify.” He told the Spotify team that Connaughton will use his “proven track record of partnering with artists and their labels” to “create, manage and execute artist marketing campaigns with a focus on innovative campaigns aimed at connecting artists with audiences and enabling fans to get more out of what they love”.

Connaughton joins  at a crucial time as Spotify are planning to go onto the stock market as a publicly traded company early next month. So far Spotify have survived for almost 10 years on private investment but have been planning to public with an IPO in recent years. Their entry onto the stock market will mark a different entry but put them on the public exchange at last.

In an internal email, Connaughton said: “I’m really happy to be joining Spotify at such a pivotal moment. I’ve spent my career in music and technology, so to be joining the team that has reshaped the way the world consumes music feels like a privilege and is really exciting to me. Spotify is an incredible platform which now has a huge opportunity  to provide a real home for artists and their teams, I can’t wait to get started.”
