We all know the joy in discovering music that no-one else has heard. Being the only one in your friendship group to know a band can be strangely satisfying in a smug kind of way. Well now Spotify are catering to that egotism by having created the perfect tool for bragging rights over artists you’ve discovered.

Spotify’s ‘Found Them First’ feature allows Spotify users to log into their profile and, using their listening history, see what artists they discovered “before they were cool”. Spotify introduced the feature last week and it is available right now for anyone to use from the ‘Found Them First’ web-page

This new feature isn’t just a tool to tell you where you rank on the Hipster scale but will also provide you with a playlist of new and relatively undiscovered music so that, whether you be a musical artisan or rarely delve outside of the top 20, you can be ahead of the game with up-and-coming artists.

‘Found Them First’ comes just a couple of months after Spotify introduced a more direct, personalised music discovery feature – Discover Weekly, which creates a 2 hour playlist of music based on your listening history with the intention of being new music to you. It is clear that Spotify is bolstering it’s roster of features and staying relevant in a year that saw music streaming boom, especially with the introduction of two major rival streaming services – Tidal and Apple Music.

However Spotify isn’t letting it’s new competition stop it’s propulsion to the throne of streaming services having been recently valued at $8.53 billion with plans to expand into video whilst continuing to expand it’s business in music. As one of the defining services in shaping the music streaming landscape we’re all so familiar with it’s good to see it hold it’s weight against a variety of powerhouse rivals.
