Sonos have upgraded their speakers so that you can control them through Spotify directly which solves some of the biggest issues with Sonos.

Sonos speakers are great, making it easier than ever to stream music around the house, but it’s not without it’s faults. Thankfully as Sonos goes into 7.0 public beta they’ve integrated Spotify even deeper to make controlling your streaming the best it’s ever been.

With Spotify Connect integration you can control your music stream, volume, devices and more all directly from your Spotify app rather than having to go through Sonos’ clunky apps. This means that you can select exactly what songs you want to play, arrange your queue, and group/ungroup rooms and speakers all from Spotify.

Spotify Connect isn’t just working with their mobile apps for Sonos however as they’ve added control from Spotify’s desktop app, so no matter what you’re using you can take control of your music. This also has the benefit of meaning you don’t have to download any Sonos apps, which is big plus for the memory-conscious of you.

Possibly the most exciting result of using Spotify rather than going through Spotify is the shuffle actually works now, rather than repeating the same stream of random songs over and over and over and over again.

One of the strangest yet most interesting features to come out of this upgraded connection is that you don’t need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network, so you can play music at home from work, the car or anywhere you can connect to the internet. Great for arriving home to music already playing, or giving someone at home a musical surprise.

To new connectivity with Spotify is currently only available for users on the Sonos Public Beta programme. You can find out more about the programme here.
