SiriusXM’s new plan makes radio streaming a better option

SiriusXM want to get people streaming radio online for cheaper, regardless of whether they’re in the car or at home.

One of the main purveyors of radio streaming online, SiriusXM have just launched a cheaper subscription for their services. The service, which streams more than 300 million radio channels, are targeting their new tier at listeners who are streaming at home or on their phone.

SiriusXM is available on most devices from smartphones to smart speakers, games consoles, and more. It’s also available in cars where they have prioritised their service up until now. Recognising the massive audience who may never listen to SiriusXM in their cars they have launched a new, more affordable price plan that doesn’t include car streaming.

Sirius XM’s vice president of marketing, Matt Epstein says: “The strength of SiriusXM’s programming is evident in the tens of millions of people who subscribe and listen in their cars year after year. We’ve now created the Essential subscription as an appealing option for the many people, particularly younger consumers, who don’t have a car or don’t spend a lot of time in their car. The Essential plan offers an attractive bundle of content at a competitively low price among streaming services .”

The Essential plan costs just $8 per month compared to $15.99 a month or more for their streaming plans that include satellite radio streaming for cars. The plan offers SiriusXM’s full range of over 300 channels including more than 200 commercial-free music stations along with their new Pandora NOW station.

This year Sirius XM added over 100 new “Xtra Channels” which feature the ability to skip tracks. All of these channels will be available to stream on devices and smart speakers with the Essential plan.

Smart speakers are currently peaking in America where they have become a massive trend in recent years. A cheaper subscription making it more available to smart speaker owners makes a lot of sense for any digital music services right now.

You can sign up to SiriusXM Essential now to get the first 3 months for free.
