Tell Music-Map an artist you like and it will create a map of artists they think you’ll love getting more and more different the further you go.

Music-Map is an awesome new site for discovering new music based on artists you like already. Music-Map is part of Gnod (Global Network of Discovery) a system that is entirely based around finding what people like and collating that information to create informed recommendations on everything from books to art.

It’s a fun and unique way of finding new music, just type in an artist that you want to hear more similar music from and you’ll get a smorgasbord of bands and artists to explore. The closer they are to the original artist the more similar or most commonly liked together they are. So distance is everything.

I’ve only had a chance to explore a few recommendations so far because the suggestions are so great I’ve been stuck listening to new artists each time. Even if they don’t sound similar, thanks to using a taste-based system you often stumble upon greatness regardless of genre.

Gnod’s creators say of ‘Gnoosic’: “Gnod is a self-adapting system that learns about the outer world by asking its visitors what they like and what they don’t like. In this instance of Gnod all is about music. Gnod is kind of a search engine for music you don’t know about. It will ask you what music you like and then think about what you might like too.”

The creator goes on to say: “When I set Gnod online its database was completely empty. Now it contains thousands of bands and quite some knowledge about who likes what. And Gnod learns more every day.”

Have a go and discover your next favourite bands now. It may not be the most visually pleasing site but who cares when it’s so effective! If you want to get involved to help make the system even better you can share your favourite bands and quickly say whether you like bands they come up with.

The system gets more powerful with everyone who contributes and with how enjoyable I’ve found it I’ll happily help them build it even further. Help build Gnoosic here: www.gnoosic.com
