RouteNote has been featured on Duncan Rileys new site, The Inquisitr. Duncan is mostly known for being one of the head writers over at Techcrunch, but he has just left that post to launch this new endeavour. The article is not a huge review, but it does showcase our services to a growing audience.
It’s a neat middle-man service with great rates targeting an interesting niche. If you’re an unsigned muso looking for a leg up, RouteNote is worth a look.
It is good to see we are getting such good feedback, but make sure if you have any suggestions for us, please just drop us an email because we are always looking at improving what we can provide.
In this day and age there are always a huge list of places on the internet where you can get recent news, but in terms of Digital Music News where do you head?
Currently, I think there are only 3 or 4 good places to head when you need the recent news in the digital music space. Below is a basic list of these sites and what they are all aboute.
Coolfer – Coolfer is currently an advertising free weblog that is dedicated to providing inside news into the digital music space. The site is very basic in terms of design and has a nice job board on the site, which provides some of the newest jobs within the industry. Coolfer is updated daily and seems to have a lot of original content.
Hypebot – Hypebot is the brain child of Bruce Houghton who is also the President of SkylineOnline, a somewhat record label. Bruce is a respect journalist within the industry and has already had Hypebot included in the Cnet top 100 blogs in 2005. Hypebot updates stories daily and is normally one of the first sources with the scoop!
Digital Music News – Paul Resnikoff is Mr Digital Music News. Paul is the publisher behind the long running service that has stayed consistent over time. Paul himself has some insiders in a variety of Digital Music companies, allowing him to be one of the first publishers with a story. The site is very professional, with the best job board in the industry.
RouteNote has launched its own YouTube channel for RNTV. Every week when we upload our new RNTV programs, they will be automatically uploaded to our YouTube channel. So make sure you head over there and subscribe! http://www.youtube.com/routenote
Ryan Jones is a singer/songwriter from Perranporth, on the North Coast of Cornwall. In addition to playing solo, he also fronts The Hitchcock Rules, an indie rock/pop band of several years standing. His solo performances are typified by a heartfelt lyrical style and intricate guitar harmonies.
Here at RouteNote we are trying to help artists get noticed in the big wide world that is music on the internet. Currently, the state of music online is a little all over the place. There are music stores appearing everyday and even more music communities opening up. Here at RouteNote we want to help our artists standout and we have started RouteNote TV to do this. RouteNote TV will be showcasing a live performance every month from one of our artists and placing their recordings onto our site.
The first artists on RouteNote TV is Ryan Jones. If you would like to be featured on RNTV and you are already using RouteNote, then please drop us an email with details about yourself or band, as well as your RouteNote username.
Currently, we seem to be having an issue with our Upload Audio section for some of our users. We are frantically trying to fix the issue and it should be fixed in the next few hours. Please note that this issue is not happening to all users and is not happening only when you upload an Mp3 or Wav. Please try the upload service and if you have any issue, please drop us a quick email with the problems.
A week after launch we noticed that we were having issues with our current hosting company. Thus, we decided to move across to one of the world leaders in hosting, Rackspace. Since the move we have noticed RouteNote has been a lot more stable and there seems to be none of the recurring issues we were having on our old hosting server.
It has been reported that Sony has agreed to acquire Gracenote for approx $260M. Gracenote provides a range of music-related solutions including MusicID, which detects which song is currently being played by an application and loads track information for the user (such as artist and album names). MusicID leverages a database of over 6M CDs and 80M tracks. Its technology has been in development since 1995 (previously under the name CDDB).
Consumer music app services such as Apple iTunes, Yahoo! Music Jukebox, and Winamp use Gracenote for their music detection capabilities. It is reported that Gracenote will continue to operate separately from Sony after the deal closes, but I still think this is a bit of a major blow to other major labels. Gracenote has technology that is leading the industry and now allows Sony to produce more tech startups in the music industry without having to worry about music recognition.
RouteNote now has a Facebook group! The RouteNote Facebook group will be showcasing some of the best bands on the sites as well as showing picture and videos. On the Facebook group we will be focusing on discussions about what you would like to see on RouteNote. Therefore, if you have any thoughts about what features we should have, who we should partner with and even if you think our site is charging too much of a cut. Then please get in touch via our Facebook group.
