My Top 10 R&B Tracks – 2014

R&B is a rather undefined term and can range across a broad selection of music. I have tryed to relate these tracks to R&B as best as possible.

1. Mary J. Blige – Right Now
This track first appeared in September 2014. It’s combination of powerful R&B vocals provided by Mary J. Blige, along with Disclosure’s amazing electronic sound, provide a great overall track.

2. Ed Sheehan – Sing
I can’t do a top tracks of 2014 without giving a mention to Ed Sheeran. A number one album and two number one singles. ‘Sing’ produced by Pharrell Williams is a totally different side to Sheeran than we’re used to.

3. Coldplay – Magic
Three years since their last album, Coldplay came back strong with ‘Ghost Stories’ which managed to peak at number one in 18 countries!

4. Wretch 32 – 6 Words
A combination of R&B and drum and bass, this is new for Wretch, and I really like it.

5. Labrinth – Let It Be
When I heard this track earlier in the year, I would have never guessed it was Labrinth. The last 20 seconds are reminiscent of a Bond track. It’s his first single from his new album, out next year ‘Take Me to the Truth’.

6. Sam Smith – Money on My Mind
After featuring on Disclosure’s ‘Latch’, Sam Smith hasn’t stop growing in popularity. He soon went on to feature on Naughty Boy’s number one record ‘La La La’. In January of this year he released his second solo single ‘Money on My Mind’ which went straight to number one. With 1,000,000 sales of his debut album in the UK alone, he’s certainly made an impact in the last 12 months.

7. Eminem – Guts Over Fear (ft. Sia)
Released on his compilation album, Eminem has been releasing hit albums since 1999. Anyone who claims their’s a better rapping is probably lying.

8. Raleigh Ritchie – Stronger Than Ever
I don’t know why this isn’t as popular as it is. An epic song I would love to see live with a full orchestra.

9. SBTRKT – Higher
Not a single from the album, but great all round track. The verses are an amazing effort from the rapper! Anyone who can memorise the full rap gets my respect.

10. Ella Eyre – Come Back
Known for her vocals on Rudimental’s single from last year ‘Waiting All Night’, Ella Eyre is shaping up to be a great solo artist with that strong voice, and she’s 20!
