My Top 10 Other Tracks – 2014

Dance, House, R&B, Indie, Underrated, Remixes and finally everything else. This is all my favourite tracks that’s genres were non-specific or I couldn’t create a whole top 10 from.

1. Mark Ronson – Uptown Funk (ft. Bruno Mars) (Funk Soul)
This is the newest track of the lot, but it’s 80s funk/soul sound sets it apart from every other track.

2. Jack Ü – Take Ü There (ft. Kiesza) (Trap)
Formed last year, Jack Ü is a collaborative effort from Diplo and Skrillex and for any fan of house, trap and dubstep they are the perfect duo. This is their first and only single so far, released back in September. It is a huge trap record, featuring vocals from another artist to appear from this year ‘Kiesza’.

3. Savant – Mecca
Savant recorded three albums this year, released two, with the third due out early next year, that’s not to mention the unreleased remixes online. The rate this producer turns out records is phenomenal! This track had be slotted into the ‘Other’ category, because what can an EDM/Hebrew/Arabic style be collectively called?

4. X Ambassadors & Jamie N Commons – Jungle (ft. Jay Z)
X Ambassadors and Jamie N Commons join forces to create this huge effort, that makes you want to run outside and engage in some extreme sports.

5. Vic Mensa – Down On My Luck (Hip-Hop and Electronic)
Down On My Luck is the first single from Vic Mensa, but he isn’t new to the Hip-Hop game. This track sees him step more towards the electronic side of Hip-Hop.

6. Jungle – Busy Earnin’ (Soul)
Another band who only surfaced this year, Jungle’s modern take on soul, generated this great track, with an awesome video to go along.

7. Andy C & Fiora – Heartbeat Loud (Drum and Bass)
Andy C brings drum and bass into 2014. Such a huge sound featuring vocals from Fiora.

8. Linkin Park – Until It’s Gone (Rock)
I am slightly bias towards Linkin Park, having been a huge fan of them when I was younger. The release of ‘The Hunting Party’ sees the band’s sixth album. Of course it’s nothing on Hybrid Theory, but that’s a difficult album to follow.

9. Avicii – Lay Me Down (Funk)
From his album ‘True’ from last year, comes the last single ‘Lay Me Down’. Released in April this year, this track has a much more upbeat funky feel about it. It’s no surprise funk God Nile Rodgers helped write the track. Listen out for the occasional iconic guitar riff.

10. Jamie XX – Sleep Sound (Electronic)
This track has a different feel to almost every other track on my other Top 10s. It’s hard to describe it and I’m sure a lot of people won’t get it. It has such a wide sound and you’ll pick up on new things within it every time. Jamie xx is an amazing artist, best known as part of indie band The xx.
