A leaked product listing has revealed what could well be Sonos’ next speaker and looks like an all new soundbar for your TV to sit on.

A listing on B&H revealed a leaked Sonos speaker called the ‘Sonos PlayBase’ showing the speaker company take a new direction. Whilst it is, as of yet, an unconfirmed leak the name and design of the speaker has people speculating that it is likely a Soundbar for your TV that can sit on top of it.

So far Sonos has focussed on home speakers that can be connected to the internet and stream music through multiple speakers. It can be assumed that the Sonos PlayBase will retain Sonos’ connectivity between other speakers for a simulated surround sound experience. Sonos already have a large TV soundbar available and with no real details available it will be interesting to see what the Sonos PlayBase brings to the table.

The Sonos PlayBase is reportedly available in black and white models and will cost $699. Some leaked photos give us a sneak peek at what it looks like but unfortunately doesn’t reveal much about what it can do. From the pictures we can tell that the PlayBase has an optical and ethernet port, a speaker grille to the front, and a small, solo button on the side of it.

Sonos have recently revealed that they plan to try and integrate AI’s from competitor home speakers like Google’s Cortana and Amazon’s Alexa. Sonos’ new CEO Patrick Spence recently spoke to The Verge about implementing AI in their home speakers, saying:

Look, if you’re Amazon, you know you need to be on as many devices as possible to get the orders, right? As you think about what the prime motivation is. For Google, if you’re not on every device so that you can be for the search opportunity, that’s a huge miss.

If you think about the people that have Sonos today, that’s why it was interesting to Apple Music, that’s why I believe it’s interesting to every voice service that’s out there.
