Upload longer videos, get custom thumbnails and more when you verify your account with YouTube.

The first thing you need to know is that for YouTube verification you will need to provide your phone number. YouTube ask for your number “to protect our community and combat abuse” so don’t worry, they won’t be giving it out to anyone.

To verify your YouTube account you need to head to: youtube.com/verify. There you will put in your phone number and you will be sent a verification code either by SMS or by a phone call – it’s your choice which you get. Make sure your phone is nearby.

Once you have your verification code you can put that into the next page on youtube.com/verify and there you have it, your account is verified!

With a verified account you can upload videos longer than 15 minutes and customise your own personal thumbnails for each video.

Verifying your account will not get a tick next to your channel. Unfortunately YouTube are more strict when it comes to giving out their verification ticks, which currently require 100,000 subscribers except in special circumstances.

If you didn’t receive a code by text or call:

  • Some countries and carriers do not support text messages from Google. Most mobile carriers support text messages from Google. If your carrier does not support text messages from Google, you can try the voice call option, or use a different phone number.
  • There are too many accounts with the same phone number. If you see the error message, “This phone number has already created the maximum number of accounts,” you’ll have to use a different number. To help prevent abuse, we limit the number of accounts that can be associated with each phone number.
