A company has achieved what we’ve all been waiting for (we have, right?), Oreo cookies that play like records on a turntable.

A Hong Kong and Taiwan-based design agency, Dimension Plus are really looking to the future with this one. They have created Oreo Vinyl, a project that achieves the unthinkable, the illogical, the irresistible – A mini record player that plays music from Oreo cookies the same way you’d play a vinyl record.

The project sees them take the black cookie, without everyone’s favourite creamy bit, and emboss it with grooves containing music. Then using a custom player you can spin your Oreo and play it like a record – and who ever said that you shouldn’t play with your food. It might not replace your old-school vinyl collection but… well… it exists.

On their website, Dimension Plus say: “We created an Oreo that plays music by replacing the classic embossing with grooves on the cookies surface that work as a vinyl record. We placed these music embossed Oreos in special Oreo Music Packs. Each cookie in the pack plays the Oreo anthem in a different musical style bringing wonder to the ears.

“Borrowing the concept and mechanics of vinyl record, the data on the cookie is embossed with a mod which is made with laser cutting and engraving technique. And we wrote a program to transform the music into a pattern. After that, we make it into a laser-engraving friendly format and produce the mod for the Oreo Vinyl Production.”

So if you were looking for the next device, the next innovation that will truly revolutionise music for years to come, then good luck with your search. To everyone else, isn’t this cool huh?
