Facebook strike a license deal with Indian label Saregama

Indian music label Saregama and Facebook sign a global license deal for use of their music in Facebook and Instagram.

The deal was announced by Facebook earlier this week. The license allows Facebook and Instagram users to use their catalogue of over 100,000 Bollywood songs, ghazals and more, in videos and stories.

Saregama are one of the oldest and largest labels in India, working with thousands of Indian artists, across 25 languages, including legends such as Lata Mangeshkar, R.D. Burman, Mohammed Rafi, Talat Mahmood, Manna Dey, Kalyanji-Anandji and Hemant Kumar. After this news came out, Saregama’s shares surged by 20%.

At Facebook, we believe music is an integral part of self-expression and bringing people closer together and creating memories that last. We are very proud to partner with Saregama that will allow people on our platforms, globally, to use their favourite retro Indian music to further enrich their content on our platforms.
