Massive Attack Split The Atom

Massive Attack have confirmed that they will release their new EP on October 5th named ‘split the atom’.

The group have told the world that the EP will feature friends of theirs including Guy Garvey from Elbow and TV On The Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe. Massive attack will release their 5th album in February, which is intended to be a follow up to 2003’s 100th Window. Damon Albarn is also confirmed to be making a guest appearance on the new album.

Massive Attack are stringing along some dates in London toward the end of summer with, among others, three back to back dates at London’s Brixton Academy 17th,18th,19th of September.

Them Crooked Vultures Open For Arctic Monkeys?

Brixton Academy this evening (26th) will be host to The Arctic Monkeys,  Who’s support slot for the gig is  being bill boarded with a ‘very special guests’ only. Its been very strongly suggested that Them Crooked Vultures will be making their UK Debut supporting the Arctic Monkeys on their one-off launch show to help promote new album ‘Humbug’.

This is only a strongly suggested rumor though, but it does add to the already strong speculation that Them Crooked Vultures are appearing at the Reading and Leeds festival as this years secret act, with Brit-Pop veterans Echobelly as the secret support. It would make sense after all, in betting that the outfit would get the best reception in the UK , given that all three members do have enormous followings with past/current exploits in the country, and that they are doing the rounds at the moment. They have already visited Hollands Lowlands and Belgium’s Pukkelpop festivals in the past week so they are getting closer.

Whether they are or not aside, my bet is on the bands first single/album coming out this side of Christmas. ‘Nobody like me and neither do i’ is the front runner in the Crooked Vultures first single game. Check it out below. (you’ll have to be patient until around 2mins 30) However, T-shirts are already available.

Les Paul Dies At 94.

APTOPIX Obit Les Paul

Guitar legend, ambassador and hero Les Paul has died at the age of 94.

Synonymous with a younger generation of guitarist and fans for the Gibson guitar that bears his name, and for his what was, completely original, and at the time, ground breaking sped up guitar lines of the late 40’s to another.

Les Paul (born Lester William Polsfuss) could arguably be responsible for the way, modern music at least, is enjoyed and has been developed as well as its electrical recording techniques. Les Paul, who’s death was a mixture of age and pneumonia, was one of the pioneers in the development of the full-bodied electric guitar in 1941, multi-track recordings and numerous reverb an echo effects. Many due to the frustration of the, at the time, limitations of guitar effects and recordings. The invention of the guitar pick up is one of the few things that he is solely responsible for, which basically involved his breaking a recording desk to pieces and using the magnet pickup of the tone arm inside to “pick up” the vibrations of his strings, you can work out the rest. After that the design just had to be refined down to what is now almost a standard issue “wammy bar” on a guitar. The Gibson Guitar corporation were the first people to incorporate Paul’s suggestions and present the idea to him , he was impressed enough to sign us with them, and the Gibson Les Paul was born.

Dying at the age of 94 he was gigging to the last breath putting on shows live in New York in 2006 and winning Grammys for his album ‘Les Paul and friends: American made, world played’. Les was inducted into countless halls of fame as well as being an honorary member of the Audio Engineering Society. Les died peacefully with his family and friends by his side yesterday (August 13th).

O2 Arena Tickets Refunds For The Next 24 Hours

Fans of the late Micheal Jackson have just 24 hours left to claim if they want their money back for the tickets they purchased for Michael’s 50 show comeback dates that were to be held in London.

Fans have two realistic options with there now useless tickets. Either keep the ticket, which contain a series of lenticular images and holograms that are set to sour in value in the next couple of decades, in the form of a memento of their fallen pop idle. Or to to contact via the web one of two ticket providers, Ticket Master, and in a mad dash attempt at getting through congested servers to try an squeeze out a refund.

Organisers and promoters AEG live issued 8 different versions of the tickets ranging from £50-£75 for a ticket before Jackson died in June. It is still unclear weather or not if the public will ever learn exactly how many of the 800,000 tickets that were issued to ticket holders have been refunded.

Wolfmother Wow Fans With New Album And Lineup.

Wolfmother are close to releasing their second album. The band were out in force last night (August 12th) at London’s Lexington Venue where they played a set that contained new material that will feature on “Cosmic Egg”, the eagerly awaited album number two for the UK’s favorite Australians.

The band seemed to be on a bit of a slope when two thirds of its founding members slipped off to create doom buggy (AUS), a side project that will now become a full fledged act. But the recent London event marked the first time fans could see the bands new line-up in the UK, and things for the band seem to look more positive. Along with original member Andrew Stockdale we saw guitarist Aiden Nemeth, bassist Ian Peres and drummer Dave Atkins.

No extra dates have been officially issued for in or around the UK, but you can catch the band touring all over the US from August 22nd continuing upto September 6th this year. 2010 sees the band touring Australia for February and March on AC/DC’s Black Ice Tour.

One More Film From Micheal Jackson.

Superior court judge Mitchell Beckloff has approved a three way deal between Micheal Jackson’s estate, tour/concert promoters AEG live and Columbia Pictures who are interested in making a movie of the pop stars final rehearsals.michael-jackson

The project, that was given a thumbs on 7th August, will be a collaboration of hundreds of hour the singers backstage rehearsals for venues in Los-Angeles and some footage of his preparations for what was intended to be his 50 date London comeback tour.

Columbia have announced that the film is scheduled to be released on 30th October and have  forked out $6o million for the rights for the film. Some of the film will reportedly be in 3D, well, lets hope in doesn’t turn into another moon-walker!
