It has been reported that Pink Floyd is currently in a contractual dispute with EMI. Members of Floyd are disputing a number of analog-to-digital extensions. “It was unclear whether record companies would be selling direct to the consumer or through retailers,” attorney Robert Howe noted, while also noting that the iTunes Store had not yet arrived at the time of the contract.
Howe is contesting moves by EMI to ‘unbundle’ music into a-la-carte singles, dismissing claims that de-coupling only applied to physical formats. Also under dispute is what royalty percentages should be assigned to new, digital formats. The case is being heard by the High Court in London.
Lady GaGa will play North American and European arenas this year and Live Nation Entertainment’s global touring division will take the reins as promoter/producer.
Lady GaGa is set to begin a run of dates in the U.K. (promoted by AEG Live) on Feb. 18 at the MEN Arena in Manchester, followed by shows in Australia, New Zealand and Japan, which are all almost sold out. According to sources, it is now expected that the artist will play arenas in Europe some time this spring, then North American arenas in the summer.
Live Nation has previous run heavy international tours for both U2 and Madonna, so Lady GaGa will be in good hands.
Every year brick and mortar merchants observe a rising in sales from Grammy winners and performers, this year so far has not been the case.
“The only act that is showing a major impact from the Grammys is the Black Eyed Peas, but it’s not big enough to make me go out and order more product on them,” the head of purchasing at one large chain says. “The artist I bet my buy on was Lady Antebellum and so far [the band] has had about a 30% jump.”
Most merchants still believe that this week things will increase!
Sometimes getting bogged down in the mud at Glastonbury isn’t a bad thing! This year many revelers will be doing exactly that but the only difference is that they will be watching soul legend Stevie Wonder headline.
Stevie is bound to bring the house down (or at least the cowsheds) as he takes to the piano to close the festival’s 40th anniversary spectacular on the Sunday night.
Additionally, Muse have just been signed up for Glastonbury to feature in the Saturday night slot.

We7 boss Steve Purdham revealed on-stage at MidemNet that the streaming music firm will launch its premium offering on 1 February.
The company has announced more details:
Unlimited stream access to more than 4 million songs – £4.99 a month, no ads.
Premium Plus includes the above plus mobile access with iPhone and Android apps – £9.99 per month
“The new premium services are about choice for the consumer,” “In the new digital music economy there is no single business model that fits all. That is why we give consumers the ability to listen to great music how they want, where they want and at a price they are prepared to pay.” says CEO Steve Purdham.
We7 are going to just compete head on with Spotify in the UK market. Im not exactly too sure this is a good idea. I dont really understand why We7 didnt just focus on becoming more of an international online music streaming site. We7 is very popular here in the UK, but they are still a long way behind in other markets. Maybe they are trying to run before they can walk. However, I understand that they feel they need to launch such a service as other competitors such as Spotify, Grooveshark, Thumbplay and MOG, move into this market.
MOG has provided a quick intro to their new music streaming service that will be launching very soon in the USA.
There currently is a lot happening in the music space online, with Spotify delaying their launch in the USA, and Myspace Music possibly moving over to a subscription model. MOG music streaming service only costs $5 per month, which means it could be a great little option away from these other major players.
Search looks to be extremely fast, with intelligent auto-complete. Adding songs from various places in the service is simple (compare to MySpace Music, which is still cumbersome after a year). And users can make the playlists private or public.
XM founder Gary Parsons is out as chairman at Sirius XM radio, bringing the company in line with Nasdaq rules about independent board members. LA Times publisher and CEO Eddy W. Hartenstein replaces him as non-executive chairman.
Canned quote:
“I could not be more proud of everything that has been accomplished in satellite radio,” said Gary Parsons. “It has been a true honor to serve the stockholders of these companies since founding through delivery of an unparallel service to millions of loyal and devoted subscribers. While it has been a privilege to serve SIRIUS XM as Chairman and to have guided the company successfully through the merger of SIRIUS and XM, I believe now is the right time to step aside. As SIRIUS XM, we have achieved significant synergies while bringing together two incredibly talented teams and unique service offerings. Moreover, despite the challenging economic environment, we have begun to generate positive cash flow and have substantially improved our financial condition. While challenges remain, I’m confident that under the direction of Mel Karmazin and with the assistance of Eddy Hartenstein, SIRIUS XM will continue to grow and flourish.”
More from the AP:
NEW YORK (AP) — Sirius XM Radio said Thursday that Gary Parsons has resigned as chairman and a member of the board and will be succeeded by Los Angeles Times publisher and CEO Eddy W. Hartenstein as non-executive chairman.
Parsons founded XM Satellite Radio and was its chairman before the company’s merger with Sirius. His replacement with an outside director brings the company in line with Nasdaq Stock Market rules on independent board members.
In a statement issued by the company, Parsons said “now is the right time to step aside,” following the merger of Sirius and XM. He said he was proud “of everything that has been accomplished in satellite radio.”
Parsons said the combined company has begun to generate cash flow and improve its financial health despite the economic downturn. He did not indicate any future plans.
CEO Mel Karmazin said Parsons was a pioneer who steered the company in the right direction including the merger.
Hartenstein was a director of XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. and has been served on the Sirius XM board since July 2008. The former DirecTV chairman and CEO became the Times’ publisher in August 2008.
There are some great sites out there that are really trying to help unsigned bands, one of which I like to think is our service. A new site that I came across today is Bands Under The Radar.
Bands Under The Radar is a site that likes to highlight bands from all over the world who are going completely unnoticed at the moment. The sites uses technology from Top Spin media to offer a great list of Mp3s on their site for a very little price. The last example is their download 100 songs for only $10.
