You’ll have to find somewhere else to store your MP3’s online as Amazon are closing their Music Locker for storing MP3s in the cloud.

Another sign that music streaming is taking over the digital world of music, Amazon are closing their cloud storage for music. The service provided cloud storage for digital music downloads so that users can access their digital music library anywhere, but no streaming does that for you with every track in the world.

It’s a bold move for a company that runs one of the most significant digital download stores but the service won’t fully close until January 2019. They’ve already ended uploads since the 18th of December but users can play and download music until January 2019.

Here are the most important details to note as an Amazon Music Storage user:

  • While you remain a paid member, you retain the ability to upload music and renew your subscription.
  • You can view and manage your Amazon Music storage subscription from Your Amazon Music Settings.
  • If your current storage plan expires without being renewed, you won’t have the option to re-start your subscription.
  • Once expired, your Amazon music purchases will remain securely stored for free, but you ill not be able to upload music.
  • If you have more than 250 imported songs when your subscription period is over, you won’t be able to access the additional songs.
  • All songs that exceed the 250 song limit are removed.
  • You can download and play the remaining 250 songs for one year after your subscription expires, when the remaining 250 songs will be removed.

You can view and manage your Amazon Music storage subscription from Your Amazon Music Settings. For information on downloading your music, see Downloading Your Music.

About Cancelling Your Subscription

Once cancelled, your plan reverts to the 250-song free plan. If you have more than 250 imported songs when your subscription period is over, you won’t be able to access the additional songs.
