Amazon are launching their popular home speaker Echo in the United Kingdom this week after making waves across the US since launching almost 2 years ago.

Amazon’s Echo speaker is finally coming to the UK bringing it’s seamless music streaming, voice activated home assistant Alexa, and all of it’s other great features to homes across the Atlantic. UK radio will also play a large part in the UK’s Amazon Echo with Radioplayer integration providing instant access to hundreds of British radio stations.

Radioplayer is powered by Alexa and features more than 450 UK radio stations and can even offer recommendations for other radio stations. Recommendations are based on a number of factors including what’s popular at the time, where you are, and of course what you’ve listened to in the past and can be easily switched to directly from the Echo speaker.

Radioplayer’s managing director, Michael Hill said: “We’ve been prototyping voice-controlled interfaces, but the Echo is by far the most capable device we’ve seen. Voice interfaces will play a huge part in car dashboards and home automation devices, and they can help people with impaired vision and mobility too. Working with the brilliant people at Amazon has helped us put UK Radio at the forefront of voice-powered technology.”

Future developments of the Radioplayer Alexa ‘skill’ could include the ability for a listener to set their favourite stations, ask what track’s playing right now, access on-demand programmes and podcasts and set reminders for their favourite shows.

Amazon’s Echo speakers will be available from the 28th September in the UK, and if you can’t wait you can pre-order it or find out more from here.
