India’s T-Series YouTube channel has become the first channel to ever earn 100 billion total video views.

Last year the Indian entertainment channel overtook PewDiePie as the most subscribed channel in the world. T-Series is a clear example of how massive Indian content is becoming online, especially as more of India becomes connected and smartphones have become so prevalent there recently.

We reported on how popular T-Series was becoming last month, when it was revealed that they get 750 million views every week. They received 3.7 billion views in total this January alone. Now they’ve reached another milestone, becoming the first channel with 100 billion total views ever.

As we mentioned, smartphones have hit their stride in India as the hugely populated country has found a tech craze. There are now more than 325 million people using smartphones in India. With potentially more people using smartphones in India than the entire US population their uptake in digital platforms is making a massive difference.

T-Series is for the most part a music channel creating high budget music videos for a variety of Indian artists. They have 300 employees and 13 of them work on YouTube full time. Despite such a small number making up their full time YouTube team, chairman and managing director Bhushan Kumar says that 60% – 70% of their revenues come from YouTube.
